The Stupidity of MMP

When it was first touted back in the day I actually voted for MMP, I guess it was probably out of pure frustration with the FPP system we had before MMP but I never envisioned it turning into the animal it is now. We have been hijacked by what is now known as the "minority voice" and because of the way MMP operates it's killing our country.
Every obscure and extreme section of society is now catered for under the guise of tolerance and fairness. Normally this would be okay in a democratic society as the majority are there to balance the ledger and keep the "nutjobs" at bay, however, now, under our current MMP system they wield considerable power and influence and directly affect legislation and policy. Unfortunately those same "nutjobs" have infiltrated parties such as National, Labour and the Greens and seek to turn our country into a literal "nanny-state" with no regard for your personal or corporate rights as an individual or business.
It is a fair question to ask but are we watching the rapid decline of western society unfold before our eyes? It is certainly a possibility, we have become so pandering and accepting of everything that our drive for tolerance has destroyed our ability to think critically and objectively and well and truly kick for touch the "crazies" who dominate our political landscape. Every day we are becoming more "communist" by nature and legislation.
MMP is contributing to that change through minority parties such as the Greens changing the political landscape and forcing "their agenda" on the rest of us. You only have to look at legislation passed in the last 10 years to notice the severe impact it is now having on us all.
Make no mistake, this current form of MMP is stupid, stupid, stupid and if I had the choice I would bury it down a deep hole to be forgotten altogether. Our politicians have used it for their own ends and we now find ourselves in an almost unbelievable situation where a minority party with just over 7% of the vote gets to determine who is going to govern our country.
The age of the minorities is well and truly here and the future looks decidedly darker.
