Incompetent Idiots

It didn't take long and came a bit quicker than I expected but on the first official day of parliament with MP's being sworn in we got a first-hand look at what is to come and it was almost comedic watching it unfold although more disturbing in actuality as the Labour led government were left red-faced and embarrassed by what can only be described as incompetence and an inability to undertake simple mathematics. It should be noted also that one of the main players in today's debacle was the newly appointed finance minister - Grant Robertson. Somewhat sobering to think that here is a guy who didn't know his most basic numbers (have we got enough votes) and he is now in control of the nation's finances???
With 5 MP's away (NZ First, Labour and Green Party) and the vote imminent for Speaker of the house, as the vote to elect Trevor Mallard as Speaker was to be held, Simon Bridges asked if MPs who were not yet sworn in could vote. Watching the chaos and rapid discussions erupt on both sides of the house showed something was afoot. As it transpired National called the government's bluff in questioning whether they had enough votes to elect Trevor Mallard due to the MP's being away.
The Government clearly had no idea about their "numbers" and actually gave away their position on select committees and how many places would be available in order to secure the vote for Trevor Mallard. Incredulously, they actually did have enough to get Trevor into the hot seat (58 to the opposition's 56) but clearly did not realise this and there is no other word for it other than that they demonstrated sheer incompetence, and, we let these people actually govern our country.
In the corporate world this kind of poor performance would be addressed and dealt with. There would be either training to improve, performance managed out of the business, or, if you operate business in the USA, you would be fired, it's that clear and simple.
Fair shake to National for taking advantage of the situation but in reality it still stinks, and, shows the "child-like" postulating behaviour of our politicians which leaves a lot to be desired.
Thanks goodness most New Zealander's are more focused on getting on with the job, providing for their families, balancing the books every week, keeping our country running, and, not relying on this shoddy lot to make things happen.
