Back To The Future - FPP is Making a Comeback

A lot of people have been asking us who are you going to vote for in this weekend’s election here in New Zealand and what are your thoughts on who will form government?  The Election in the USA has also generated a lot of questions and discussions as well as feedback which we always welcome.

Here are our thoughts on the election in New Zealand:

2020 has to be one of the toughest elections our country has experienced in it’s short history and when you look at our prospects it is a scary thought.  On the one hand we are potentially steering down the barrel of a Labour dominated and led government who with the Greens should they ascend the 5% party vote threshold will make the next three years the stuff of nightmares and could potentially destroy our country permanently both economically and socially.

Because they are ideologically driven they give no thought to reason, consideration or practicality, they only want to see their agenda rammed through no matter what the cost.  At heart they are Communists and want absolute state and personal control over everything, period.

In Jacinda Ardern you have someone who is to put it kindly has not the faintest idea about economics, education, job creation, business and many other important areas and therefore is easy to manipulate.  With absolutely nothing to offer our country she may sound good and indeed has the gift of the gab but actually it really is all “puff” and there is no substance, mainly because she has none.

If they do gain the majority in parliament then New Zealand will fully deserve the suffering and pain and utter nonsense that will be measured out over the next three years as a result of handing power back to them.  There is no one of quality in the Labour Party and while we always had a soft spot for Stuart Nash he has buckled under the Jacinda spell sadly.  The Greens do not need any further comment, they are a train wreck full of menacing nut-jobs who will utterly destroy everything you hold dear including our all important farming community.

On the other side you have the National Party along with Act who potentially could cause a real boil-over and surge to power under Judith Collins.  National is not really any different to Labour, the two big parties almost look the same.  The only real difference is the leader of the parties and in Judith you have a fighter, intellect and a matter-of-fact attitude to life and politics.  The National Party made a big mistake in not installing her sooner to the leadership and on Saturday we will find out how costly that decision could be.  The prospects of another 3 years on the sidelines would be a waste.  Act also are enjoying a surge in poll ratings and popularity and while we strongly disagree with David Seymour on the Euthanasia debate and pending legislation he has managed to come across as reasoned and principled in his rhetoric and policy outline.

New Zealand First we predict will no longer be in Parliament and we believe Winston will pay for his treacherous decision in forming government with Labour last time around.  For around 40 years in Parliament it is hard to see what good he has actually done and how he has furthered the interests of New Zealander’s in that time.  A career politician with a huge chip on his shoulder it is well and truly time he and his party is put out to pasture due to being well past his use by date.

And now for the minority parties and we will only stick to the ones worth mentioning due to there being so many of them this time around...

Maori Party - Difficult to see them getting across the line unless they pick up a Maori Seat.  If they do, you can guarantee that should National do well enough they will be knocking on their door to form an alliance and regain power.  We struggle with the concept of a Maori Party, why should they be treated any differently to the rest of us and how is this simply not racist?  The bludgeoning and screwing of the taxpayer under the lucrative grievances landscape simply has to stop and as a nation we need to forgive the past and move forward together.  Some of the rhetoric around one law for Maori and one for everybody else is also very concerning and they seem to be heading down a very clear apartheid track.

New Conservative - As many of you know the founder of this blog played a key role in setting up this party in the early days and of course we continue to watch the party grow and do their best to get their message across.  It is hard work and often goes unnoticed or ignored but we sense that while we don’t believe the party will make it this election (we estimate 2-3% of the vote) they have laid good ground work for further attempts and must carry on.

They do need to shake the “Christian” label however and also require strong leadership to take them forward as well as a change of tactics and mindset when addressing policy and going on the offensive with the media.  You need backbone and to be able to create controversy in order to run a good campaign, and, from our perspective this has been lacking.  A naivety and fear of “anything going wrong” is a poor outlook and strategy.

Playing it safe is not a recipe for success, just ask Trump.

Advance New Zealand - The media have done their best to write Billy TK and his party off as a bunch of crazies but in reality that is a real stretch.  Billy comes across as genuine, intelligent and someone with a good heart.  He speaks boldly and against the establishment and their agenda’s, something we admire and could do with a lot more of in politics.  The unfortunate alliance with Jamie-Lee Ross has done him no favours however as JLR simply doesn’t have any credibility and his voting record is very sketchy.  A career politician who is self-interested certainly seized on the opportunity to align with BTK and his rapid growth movement.

The frustration for us is that Advance New Zealand and New Conservative couldn’t negotiate an alliance, put aside their differences and reach common ground on which to launch a successful campaign.  Had they done so they would have been a real chance at the 5% this time around.  While we wrote to both parties offering our services to meet at the negotiation table only the New Conservative Party showed any desire or interest to their credit to open the discussion.

So it would appear that this election we are reverting back to a form of the old system of first past the post.  We know MMP is broken and frankly New Zealander’s have grown tired of it, don’t be surprised when one of the major parties are given the keys to Parliament as a majority with a couple of smaller players thrown into the mix.

The only question is regardless of which one does get the tick of approval - Labour or National, will the eventual outcome be any different for our country?

Somehow, we suspect not.

It seems that insanity will once again prevail...
